About Dr. Johann Schonken

To God belongs the glory and honor. Here at Power Missions we know that God is the source of all life and whatever is good. This information is not to give any man recognition or honor. This is a testimonial of God's goodness and an effort to introduce a human being that is saved by grace and used by God in spite of many shortcomings.

Johann Schonken was born and raised in South Africa in a God-loving family. His grandfather was one of the pioneers of the Pentecostal Movement in Southern Africa. His late father, Colonel Schonken was a healing evangelist and his mother still teaches the Word in many countries.

After leading a rough life as a young man and making many mistakes, Johann gave his heart to Jesus Christ and felt the calling to be a minister of the Word. The Lord put him on a long road of training and preparation.

Johann is a graduate from Vanguard University and Fuller Theological Seminary. He specialized in his graduate work on Church Growth and Leadership Development.

He is married to Erica, who is the daughter of missionaries. They have two children, Michael and Michelle. Michael is attending a Bible school in Taiwan with YWAM . Michelle is attending high school. Currently they reside in Mission Viejo, California.

Johann Schonken is first and foremost a revivalist and preacher. For more than twenty years, he has been preaching the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. He pastored a church in South Africa for five years. He was the International Director for Missions for a Pentecostal denomination for almost seven years. He is a founding member of the Good News Ministries International group and is currently the president of the organization.

He was directly and indirectly involved with many church plantings. He helped plant churches in Mozambique, Swaziland and California.

He is an international Bible and Leadership teacher. Many Church Leadership, Healing and Prophetic Schools have been conducted by him and this ministry.

Johann, along with his brother Iann Schonken, developed Prayer Schools and wrote the book The Prayer Partner

Part of Johann's work includes humanitarian ministry to the poor. Good News Humanitarian is a Christian organization he founded that promises to alleviate the suffering of the poor, sick and downcast, wherever they may be. Many projects are already established in South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique and Madagascar. Good News Humanitarian continues to develop future projects to minister to people throughout the world.

Johann's vision and desire to proclaim the Word of God to the unreached everywhere lead to his establishment of Good News Broadcasting, a new Christian radio ministry with a vision of many new FM stations broadcasting the Word throughout Third World countries. The first station was opened in January in Antananarivo. Two other stations will be opened in Madagascar this coming August.

Currently God is leading Johann to put his focus on Power Healing and Evangelism. The Lord has blessed Johann with gifts of healing and miracles. He has prayed for thousands of people and many have been healed.

The passion of this ministry is to see the Gifts of the Holy Spirit discovered and utilized in the Body of Christ. Above all, to see the Kingdom of God being manifested in the lives of people all over the world.
