The Quest for
Truth... Blog by Dr. Johann Schonken
I have yet to find a human being who likes lies. Even the biggest liars prefer to receive absolute truth from those around them, and hate it when others lie to them.
Real science by default looks for truth. The study of these truths leads to new discoveries and new technologies. Every assumption, concept and idea is tested to the brim to discover truth. Once the truth is established it is called a fact.
John 18:37-38 states "Pilate therefore said unto Him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?..."
Pilate, as an educated man of incredible power in his time, asked the question of the ages: "What is truth?" In these days we are living today, the question is still "What is truth?"
Common sense and wisdom tells us that we need truth. It is hard to find real liberty, real peace, healthy relationships, healing, restoration, and real success without truth. Terms like "politically correctness", "diplomacy", "the purpose justifies the means" and "white lies" come to the mind.
Jesus said in John 8:31-32 "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." True freedom is the result and reward of truth. Truth is only available to those who continue in God's Word. Bondage is the result of lies and deceit. Bondage is guaranteed to those who are not continuing in God's Word. "To continue" means to go on. It means that having truth at one occasion is not good enough. You have to know it again, and again, and again, which leads to more, and more, and more. That leads to more, and more, freedom and liberty.
We are talking here about a growing process. As we get exposed to His Word, truth is revealed and understood. This revelation and understanding becomes a foundation that more truth can be built on. If the foundation is made of sand, the house will not stand in the midst of life's storms.
In John 18:37-38 Jesus says: "I am the way, the truth and the life". If you think about it, He is talking about three attributes of Himself. The one that stands out to me is that He calls Himself "Truth". Truth is in other words one of His names.
Truth is more than facts. Truth is like a journey. Real truth is also only available to those who go to God to ask and receive, seek and find and continue to knock. It is a life goal. He or she who discovers it and who keeps on mining for more is fortunate indeed.
The reward is peace like a river, joy unspeakable, and real fulfillment.
Let's seek for it and live in it.
